Bag of bones in a junk shop suit Gonna walk the line better draw it thicker Teetotal tally up what you owe Do what you can but they want it quicker How many who-are-they's begging and barking Is what it is better take it and like it Go getter go get 'em don't give up Your money or your life is it that enticing? I found a rope to lower me down Got a knife in the back and a lemon twist Sending out a call anybody there? I keep what's left tied to my wrist Hell hell the hell with you You say I can't but I'm going to Hell hell the hell with you You say I can't but I'm going to Two faced fakers fetching compliments Tell you who to talk to and who to talk about Spray painted sycophants walking on water Can't read a word without moving their mouths Fake it 'til you make it made it out of here Only way to win is to play the game alone Gang's all here let's get it together Carve out a space and make it our own. I found a rope to raise me up Left a rented room and my favorite chair Raise me up or lower me down I got enough rope to get me out of here Hell hell the hell with you You say I can't but I'm going to Hell hell the hell with you You say I can't but I'm going to Hell hell the hell with you You say I can't but I'm going to Hell hell the hell with you You say I can't but I'm going to I got enough rope to get me out of here I got enough rope to get me out of here I got enough rope to get me out of here I got enough rope!

My Rainy Day 03:44
I do what I can to keep my boots clicking Try to ignore the clock's tick ticking I take a step forward, move to the side Navigate a path straight down the line Reaching for the rafters I reach for the stars Set my sights on Venus but landed on Mars Isn't that the way it always goes Try to hide but desperation shows Today just might be my rainy day Saving for the future, the future got away Today just might be my rainy day Saving for the future ah but that just slipped away She put twenty percent in her 401k On the way to work she was hit by a train Hundred better ways to waste your time You oughta see what I do with mine Scale back your dreams these are Modern Times Not everyone deserves everything that shines Empty out your pockets count your nickels and dimes Try to make it through the week without falling behind Did it by the numbers don't sign the dotted line Piling up pennies doesn't equal your time With my head above water, my feet on the ground I think I found a way to beat this town Today just might be my rainy day Saving for the future, the future got away Today just might be my rainy day Saving for the future ah but that just slipped away She put twenty percent in her 401k On the way to work she was hit by a train Hundred better ways to waste your time You oughta see what I do with mine

She took the train to LA and drove to Lancaster Danny was gone but they said he'd asked of her What you lose in the silver you sometimes find in the dirt The good were the ones who always got it the worst Criss cross double cross Got what you wanted and more than you bargained for Criss cross double cross Got what you wanted and more than you bargained for Criss cross double cross Got what you wanted and more than you bargained for Criss cross double cross Got what you wanted and more than you bargained for When he saw her again he wished it was like before But her new life was something he couldn't afford You left it behind but it's gaining ground on you It might pass you by or drag you down if it wants to Criss cross double cross Got what you wanted and more than you bargained for Criss cross double cross Got what you wanted and more than you bargained for Criss cross double cross Got what you wanted and more than you bargained for Criss cross double cross Got what you wanted and more than you bargained for Who's really on your side when they're in it for themselves? Who's really on your side when they're in it for themselves? Who's really on your side when they're in it for themselves? Who's really on your side when they're in it for themselves?

The Drag 04:18
Standing on the corner up on top of a box Saying "Life's a breeze baby if you like what you got" Take it leave it do what you want See you with a shovel dig a deeper hole Dirt's gotta cover the time you stole My way high way do it or don't I don't want to hear how it worked for you It all means nothing if it's just for the few Dragging me down, dragging me down, dragging me down Dragging me down, dragging me down, dragging me down Hundred pound weight tied to my ankle, both arms tied behind my back Eyes darting 'round looking for the angle, gotta get straight gotta get on track Pull the line closer and call it success Pedestal climber looking down on the rest Bought sold do what you're told All the moving parts are built to collapse The wheels are falling off nothing's made to last Build it break it do it again I don't want to hear how it worked for you It all means nothing if it's just for the few Dragging me down, dragging me down, dragging me down Dragging me down, dragging me down, dragging me down Hundred pound weight tied to my ankle, both arms tied behind my back Eyes darting 'round looking for the angle, gotta get straight gotta get on track

Bleeding on the inside where it counts We're all just trying to make a buck Gonna get rich with Charlie Bigger Don't let that hatchet swing Good ol' Lou's got that needle He's got that pair of gloves Old lady's gone plans fell through Got a message from above Dance in uniform dance 'til it's over Dance 'til we are just bones Winner gets a prize goes down with the horses Dance 'til we are just bones No worse, no better Only get you down if you let it No worse, no better I do what I can to just forget it No worse, no better Only get you down if you let it Took all you had to get where you're going And now they're asking for more It's a race to the bottom in this town A Hell of a Woman waits Dolly called Roy, Dillon's in trouble They say they're gonna make him pay Feed you the bills stuffed in the mattress And send you off to El Rey Dance in uniform dance 'til it's over Dance 'til we are just bones Winner gets a prize goes down with the horses Dance 'til we are just bones No worse, no better Only get you down if you let it No worse, no better I do what I can to just forget it No worse, no better Only get you down if you let it No worse, no better I do what I can to just forget it

A man comes in with a tale he wants to tell Woman at the bar says "Don't drag me through your hell" Guy in the corner wants a place where he can think The one who just left's getting closer to the brink She's out looking for something she left behind He's out looking for something he'll never find Together in the back booth at The Darkest Night Ticket for the train I'm gonna get out of here No one knows my name I'm gonna get out of here Never be the same If I get out of here Promises made, bags packed, a place to meet It's three a.m. and there's no one on the street Take it as a sign and you head out on your own Sun comes up and you find you're still alone She's out looking for something she left behind He's out looking for something he'll never find Together in the back booth at The Darkest Night Ticket for the train I'm gonna get out of here No one knows my name I'm gonna get out of here Never be the same If I get out of here

Made it this far can't get out of the car Keep it together don't fall apart Coming down the hall my stomach in knots Well-wishers wish while I pray for the pox I can't stay here another single day If I don't leave now I'll never get away I can't stay here another single day Productivity at an all time low Work piling up and I'm moving slow Recognition for your hard work Pat on the back, condescending smirk I can't stay here another single day If I don't leave now I'll never get away I can't stay here another single day I can't stay here another single day If I don't leave now I'll never get away I can't stay here another single day

Burn it to the ground, toss it in the drink Weight it with stones and see if it sinks Hide it in the basement, chop it to bits Stuff it in a suitcase if you think it will fit You piled it high pushed it out from shore It came back higher than before So roll it in a carpet, lock it in the trunk Throw it out back with the rest of the junk Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Lost in the desert, circling black birds I could have saved you but forgot the words Bottom of a ditch on the side of the road Out past the highway where nobody goes Slid that weight right off your back Bury your fortune in a burnt out shack Pry up the floorboards, reach into the dark I hear next week they're digging up the park Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Wish I could find a way To make it all go away Wish I could find a way Wish I could find a way Wish I could find a way

about

The BIg Store headed in to the Suplex Audio studio in the summer of 2021 to record what would be their debut album.  Engineer Manny Nieto wanted to capture the group live as a unit with a vintage grit and avoid the modern polish that can date an album.  The band put down twelve songs over two full days in the studio, adding vocals and a few overdubs over the next two weeks.  Culling the selection down to a tight ten song album, the digital release is set for early fall.  The album will be released on vinyl by year's end.

about

The Big Store Long Beach, California

Long Beach based power pop/punk rock and roll trio. Baron Norris (guitar and vocals) and Hiroshi Yamazaki (drums) bonded over a love of The Heartbreakers and enlisted Chris Barfield to play like Bruce Foxton of The Jam.

Arch, deadpan, vocals over sharp, guitars form the basis of these catchy tunes. Think early nineties via The Replacements and Violent Femmes and they might just draw you in.
